Pain, elation, jubilation, hunger. Just a few of the things I felt after 4 hours and 22 minutes of pounding the pavement at the 4th annual Nike Women’s Marathon in San Francisco yesterday. That’s right folks, 4:22 at my first marathon. I was very happy to finish and now I have a time to run against in the next one. Yes, I said the next one. At mile 23 I just wanted it over. About 10 minutes after I crossed the finish line I was quietly wondering what marathon I would run next. I think I might be hooked.
In the meantime, I have been resting, recovering and eating. I am heading back to the east coast tomorrow and am not looking forward to the plane ride. However, sitting down isn’t the real concern, it’s when I want to get up. My quad and groin muscles are pretty sore so getting up has been problematic for the last day and a half. I guess that teaches me, more squats and lunges during training.
So until I reach the east coast, this is the newest marathon finisher signing off.
