I haven’t been in the mood to write about running, mainly because I haven’t really been in the mood to run. Most of the time I am, but the pollen has been extremely bad and on the days I run by myself I have been running indoors. Running any more than 6 miles on a treadmill sucks. That is a fact. Tomorrow I am going to brave mother nature with nothing more than my trusty inhaler.
On Saturday I ran from Park Slope Brooklyn, across the Brooklyn Bridge, to the west side of Manhattan and back. 10 miles. It was so hot. And there is a sneaky incline that creeps up on you both ways of the bridge (one might think this is common sense). It was great. I had to stop concentrating on not running over the multiple pedestrians and enjoy the scenery and wow, it was so amazing. The beauty that is the Status of Liberty sat in the harbor, the sun was shinning, the downtown skyline of Manhattan sat looming, just waiting for me to run to it. But that’s all I have to say about that right now. The running is going, and I still have at least 4 more months of training. So it goes.

I think doing your first run across the Brooklyn Bridge and back is a pretty major milestone.
Now, I’m not a runner, but I have spent month after month practicing for specific concerts. I think with any longer term goal like this, there’s gonna be ups and downs. Sometimes, you just won’t be in the mood–but that’s when your dedication comes through. And the fact that you haven’t been in the mood, but you’re still getting out there is awesome.
