First Sunday in a month

So as per our “schedule”, which I had been following religiously up to about a month ago- we are to run 4-6 miles on Sunday. When the Saturday long runs started to get past 15 miles I found myself sore and exhausted still on Sunday and had decided over everything else, to listen to my body and rest. Today was the first Sunday in about a month when I actually felt I could go out and run the day after a long run. I was amazed..and happy! I didn’t feel like completely debilitated after running nearly 18 miles (in pretty hot temps, it was in the mid 80’s by the time we were done yesterday and the humidity is no joke).

I was so wrecked after the 18 mile run when the heat index was over 100, it really effected me mentally. I didn’t want to run for a week and a half afterwards. My body was tired and I was questioning if I would even be able to finish the full marathon. Who was I joking? I have asthma, my body isn’t strong enough, I can never conquer the San Fran hills, the list goes on and on. All those thoughts and more. But when I voiced my concerns to my coach and some of my team mates yesterday, they were so supportive. Their main advice that I had to let that bad run 2 weeks ago go. It was over and every day is different. And they were right. Yesterday was about the same mileage and it felt so different.

So when I woke up this morning I felt like I wanted to give it a go. I went out for about 45 minutes, threw a few little hill repeats in there “just for fun”, I was tired at the end and had only run 1/3 of what I had yesterday- but that was totally ok by me. I was just happy to get out there. Every day is different.
